View an Assignment
From the Assignments page, click the name of the assignment that you would like to view. An Assignment page for that assignment appears.
The Assignment page displays all assignment-related information under Assignment Information. There is also a Submit Assignment section where you may submit your assignment. refer to Submit an Assignment for more information.
If your instructor has added assignment files for you to download, the name of the file will appear inside of a table under Assignment files. Click on the name of the file to download the file. See Download an Assignment File below for more information.

Download an Assignment File
If your instructor has included a file to use with your assignment, the file must be downloaded, or transferred from the WebCT server to your computer or disk. In order to open the file, you will then need the same software installed on your computer that was used to create the file.
- From the Assignments screen, click the name of the assignment whose file you would like to download. The Assignment screen for that assignment appears.
- In the table under Assignment files, click on the name of the assignment file.
- A download window appears:
Select the radio button next to the file and click [Download].
- Your computer's download screen appears. Follow the onscreen instructions to save the file to your hard drive or to a disk.
- When finished, click [Close] to return to the Assignment screen.

Submit an Assignment
Assignments will always display the due date and whether the instructor has allowed late submissions. If late submissions are allowed for an assignment, it is important to note whether the final cutoff date is unlimited or limited to a specific date. If late submissions are allowed and the cutoff date is unlimited, you will see a Late notice next to the assignment, but the assignment will still be available. If late submissions are allowed before a specific date, you will see a Late notice next to the assignment, but the assignment will only be available until the cutoff date. The steps for submitting a late assignment are the same for on-time assignments.
Submitting an assignment involves two steps:
- Uploading the completed assignment from your computer to your WebCT course.
- Submitting the assignment to your instructor.
The name of the file name may contain characters and numbers (a-z, A-Z, 0-9), spaces, _, &, ( ), -, . , and ~. The ~ symbol may not be used as the first character of a file name. The file name should also have an extension that corresponds to the software program that created the file, such as .doc for Microsoft Word, .xls for Microsoft Excel, etc. If an extension is not automatically added to your file name, you should add the extension.
To upload your assignment file from your computer to your WebCT course:
- From the Assignments screen, click the name of the assignment that you want to submit. The Assignment screen for that assignment appears.
- Under Student files, click
. The Upload File for Assignment screen appears.
- Enter the file name and path in the Filename textbox or click [Browse] to locate the file on your computer or disk.
- After clicking [Browse], your computer's browser window appears.
- Locate the file you wish to upload and click [Open]. You will be brought back to the Upload File for Assignment screen with the path and filename already entered in the textbox.
- Click [Upload]. You will be brought back to the Assignment screen. The uploaded file will appear in a table under Student files.
- To remove uploaded files, select the check box next to the file name and click [Remove files].
To submit the uploaded file to your instructor:
- Under Submit Assignment click
. - A confirmation message appears. Click [OK].
- The Assignment Submission Confirm screen appears. Your assignment has now been submitted. You may use the bread crumbs at the top of the page to return to the Assignments screen.
- On the Assignments screen, the Status section for each assignment reads either Submitted, Not submitted, or Graded. Once your assignment has been graded, click on the word Graded to read your instructor's comments.
After your assignment has been submitted, some instructors may allow you to retrieve the assignment and make changes to it and resubmit it. See below for more information.

Retrieve an Assignment for Resubmission WebCT at the University of Nevada gives students the option to retrieve a submitted assignment for resubmission. Your instructor may or may not allow retrieval of assignments. If your instructor allows you to retrieve an assignment, the assignment will not be graded until after the due date, and you may submit and retrieve the assignment as many times as you would like before the due date. Once an assignment has been retrieved, the instructor has no record of it and it must be resubmitted before its due date.
Retrieving an assignment involves two steps:
- Retrieve the assignment
- Download the retrieved assignment
To retrieve a submitted assignment:
- Click the name of the assignment on the Assignments screen. The Assignment screen for that assignment appears.
- Click
at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation window appears.
- Click [OK]. The Retrieve Assignment screen appears confirming your retrieval.
- Click the name of the assignment in the bread crumbs at the top of the screen to return to the Assignment page.
To download the retrieved assignment:
- On the assignment's Assignment page, click on the name of the file in the table under Student files.
- A download window appears:
Select the radio button next to the file and click [Download].
- Your computer's download window appears. Follow the onscreen instructions to save the file to your hard drive or a disk.
- Click [Close] when finished.
You may now modify your assignment and resubmit it. To resubmit the modified assignment:
- From the Assignments screen, click the name of the assignment you want to resubmit. The Assignment screen for that assignment appears.
- Under Submit Assignment, click [Upload file]. The Upload File for Assignment screen appears.
- Enter the file name and path in the Filename textbox or click [Browse] to locate the file on your computer or disk.
- After clicking [Browse], your computer's browser window appears.
- Locate the file you wish to upload and click [Open]. You will be brought back to the Upload File for Assignment screen with the path and filename already entered in the textbox.
- Click [Upload]. If the file your are uploading has the same name as your original file, the Upload Status for Assignment screen appears asking if you want to overwrite the file. Click [Upload].
- The Assignment screen reappears with the new file uploaded to the table under Student files.
- Click [Submit assignment] at the bottom of the screen.
- A confirmation message appears. Click [OK].
- The Assignment Submission Confirm screen appears. Your assignment has now been submitted. You may use the bread crumbs at the top of the page to return to the Assignments screen.

Viewing Graded Assignment Files
The Assignments page will display the Status for each assignment as one of the following:
When the Status changes to Graded:
- Click on the word
to view the Assignments Results screen. The screen will display your grade and any comments from your instructor. Any files you submitted or received back will also be displayed.
- You may click on the name of any files to download. A download window appears.
- Select the radio button next to the file to download and click [Download].
- Your browser's download screen appears. Follow the onscreen instructions to save the file to your computer or disk.
- Click [Close] when finished.
Your instructor may also add a My Grades icon to the homepage which displays grades for tests, quizzes, and assignments.
