Eligibility
TAs must meet the following requirements for nomination:
- Be a graduate assistant with duties as a course instructor, discussion leader, or lab supervisor
- Earned 12 graduate credit hours or more prior to Spring Semester 2007
- Earned a 3.25 GPA or higher
- At least one semester of experience as a graduate assistant with instructional, discussion leader, or lab supervisory duties at the University prior to Spring Semester 2007
Procedures
Each department is responsible for determining its own nomination procedures. Departments may nominate more than one TA. In addition, students will have the opportunity to nominate their own TAs online through the ETP website. We will notify you of all student nominations from your department.
We recommend that you make the nominee responsible for assembling his or her nomination packet. Nominees should submit the following:
- Cover letter
- A letter of recommendation from their supervising professor
- Their spring semester work schedule
- A one to two-page teaching philosophy statement
- Compiled student evaluations from the previous two semesters (or last semester for new TAs)
Deadlines
Nominees must be submit their packets to the DTA Awards Committee, ETP, Mail Stop 289, by March 1, 2007.
The DTA Committee will determine the finalists by April 15, 2007. A member of the ETP staff will visit each finalist’s class. During the evaluation process, the DTA Committee will select ten (10) or more award recipients.
ETP, Core Curriculum, and GSA will recognize all the recipients during Graduate Student Awareness Week in April 2007.
The Excellence in Teaching Program will host a special reception to honor the award recepients and their invited guests.
The University will recognize the two Distinguished TA awardees at the “Honor the Best” ceremony in TBA .
