Teacher :

Ms. Margaret Fitzgerald

Student Comments

Meg, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything. You made my transition into college life a breeze. In your class, I had the most fun. Not to mention that I learned so much I can use, not only during my freshman year, but also for the rest of my life. You are the best! Thank you so much!

Art

Teacher :

Dr. Alicia Barber

Student Comments

I want to thank you for being a great professor and a mentor. Thank you so much for letting me work with you. I hope that you get the teaching position in the history department because I know you will be missed if you don’t. You have made UNR a greatm place. It would not be the same without you.
Thank you again for being a great professor, mentor, boss, and friend.

Teacher :

Dr. Jane Davidson

Student Comments

Dr. Davidson has a manner of teaching her classes that has encouraged many students to take multiple courses from her. From the very first day I attended Dr. Davidson's class I knew that I was going to learn a great deal about art, history, and culture in the 17th century in Northern Europe. Davidson has a wonderful ability to draw analogies to her subject, comparing different historical periods and ideas that make the course really fascinating. This course really brings the Baroque period alive. It is sophisticated, intellectually challenging, and fun. I'm learning that Art is not only beautiful and edifying, but it contains hidden meanings and iconographic images that express the values and conventions of the countries in which the art was produced. This is one of those courses that makes a student feel good about life in general. The student who recommended this course to me, said that in addition to learning about art, she felt that Dr. Davidson was a really good person. I couldn't agree more, but then, that is only one of her many attributes.

Teacher :

Dr. Joanna Frueh

Student Comments

Not only did I learn vast amounts on art and culture, but Dr. Frueh had that something extra that she conveyed in her teaching. She is a gifted and passionate teacher. Thank you Dr. Frueh!

Teacher :

Mr. Zoltan Janvary

Student Comments

During the course of my first painting class, I came to question myself about whether I have what it takes and whether I would continue as an art major. Thank you, not only for teaching me how to paint, but also for the encouragement you gave me throughout art 135, during the times that I didn't believe in my own abilities. It is now been a year since that class and I have finally decided to continue as an art major in painting. So once again, as I have already stated, Thank you.

Biochemistry

Teacher :

Dr. David Schooley

Student Comments

Dr. Schooley, Thanks for being an amazing Metabolic Regulation teacher. You made my money worthwhile!

Business Administration

Jane Bessette

Student Comments

Thank you for all of your help this semester!

Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies

Teacher :

Wendy Woods

Student Comments

I appreciate the multiple resources provided in this course by Ms. Woods. The assignments and online discussions helped me to take an in-depth look at my own views on addictive behavior and taught me a great deal about how to approach treatment. I believe I am in a much better position to help clients with alcohol and drug problems as a result. Thank you Wendy!

Student Comments

I would like to thank Wendy for the way she presented the material on substance abuse and addiction. I appreciated her personal emails to the weekly postings giving me feedback to not only the bulletin board post but my personal weekly assignments sent to her. She required interaction on the bulletin board and I that was very helpful in understanding how other people felt about the same issue. Because of her I learned a lot more about the aspects of substance abuse and addiction.

Student Comments

Thank you Professor Woods for a great semester. It was awesome having a teacher understand my problem when my niece was in the hospital. Thank you for all your help this semester, I really learned a lot. This was an awesome class and I hope to see you some time in the future!

Center for Basque Studies

Teacher :

Dr. Joseba Zulaika

Student Comments

Thank you for a very interesting course. I broadened my knowledge about Basque culture from a variety of angles.

Chemistry

Teacher :

Dr. Suk-WahTam-Chang

Student Comments

She makes the subject easier even if it's hard and she knows how to boost student's confidence!!! Thank you so much for that!!!!!!!!!!

Student Comments

I want to thank Dr. Tam-Chang because she takes the extra time to explain the intricut details of both the mechanisms as well as those for specific reactants which are important for understanding the concepts of how and why chemical rxns occur. I have taken several chemistry courses and all those previous teachers assumed that someone else taught us the seemingly minor details that are essential for understanding. Dr. Tam-Chang seems to know (or remember) that students can't always remember everything from General Chemistry or the class before(whether it was taught or not). I just wanted to let her know that her efforts in the classroom, as well as the help she offers durring office hours are extreemly valued...even if our grades don't always show it! :)

Teacher :

Dr. Joseph Cline

Student Comments

Prof. Cline is the epitome of the perfect teacher. He is enthusiastic about the subject. He is able to explain the most abstract concepts of quantum mechanics using tangible/understandable thoughts and pictures. He explained theories, including the mathematical basis for quantum mechanics in such a way that his most “elementary” student would understand. My perception of physical chemistry (which is a field of chemistry I had zero interest) has changed completely. I actually like it. I may never be very good at the math part, but I feel like I have learned enough about quantum to participate in discussions and understand it.
All thanks to Prof. Cline and his instructions.

Civil and Enviromental Engineering

Teacher :

Dr. Lyle Carden

Student Comments

I would like to thank Lyle for making a potentially difficult and dry subject understandable and interesting. Lyle was very thorough in his instruction, providing us with lecture notes so we could concentrate on the course material and freeing up valuable time for reviews at the beginning of each class. His communication skills were excellent, the assignments were beneficial; he was available and helpful outside of class, and very down-to-earth. Good luck in your future endeavors, Lyle, and thank you for a job well done!

Teacher :

Dr. Gokhan Pekcan

Student Comments

Professor Pekcan was a delightful instructor, extremely knowledgeable yet humble, with an obvious desire for his students to understand the subject matter. He was sensitive to student needs, available outside of class and by phone/email, and the homework and midterm solutions he provided were very helpful. His enthusiasm, humor and encouragement of class participation made for an enjoyable learning experience. Overall the class was an inspiration and a real treat. Thanks for all your effort, Dr. Pekcan!

Computer Science and Engineering

Teacher :

Dr. Sergiu-Mihai Dascalu

Student Comments

He is the best teacher I ever had. He conducted the entire course in a well planned manner. He has an open door policy for the students. He is down to earth and hard working person, inspires all the students to work hard and enjoy the course. An ideal role model. Thank you so much Dr Dascalu, keep up the good work!

Teacher :

Ms. Nancy LaTourrette

Student Comments

This was not an easy course. From the start I had to struggle. There were a great number of quizzes and assignments. At the time, it seemed like an onerous burden to bear. Since then I have seen Ms. LaTourrette in her office at all hours of the day and evening; even when all other faculty has gone home. It seems she is always at work. I mentioned that fact to her on one occasion. Her reply was that she had to spend so long grading all the work she gave out, but she did it for the students because they only seem to learn when they are motivated. Indeed, looking back, CS202 was the class where I have learned more than in any of the other classes I have taken these last few years. Not all of my professors have taken the time to assign well thought out assignments or to carefully grade them. Though future classes may curse me, "Thank you, Ms. LaTourrette for all of your time, dedication, and concern. Keep up the hard work."

Teacher :

Mr. Muhanna Muhanna

Student Comments

He's just GREAT! I like his class and the way he goes through the material. So relaxed in front of us, wide smile, self confidence, nice humor, nice look. He's really amazing.

Core Humanities

Teacher :

Mr. Bernard Schopen

Student Comments

Thank you for making my education worth the money I have spent.

Student Comments

I've always been a history buff, but taking all three of Dr. Schopen's classes taught how much I didn't know. I can't believe how much I learned from his three on-line classes. His assignments were great, the reading selections were interesting, his exams were fair, and most of all, I appreciated his comments on my work. Oh, yes. His lesson response times were the fastest of all the on-line classes I've ever taken!! Sometimes they were graded within hours.

Student Comments

I would like to thank you, Mr. Schopen for helping me through a subject that I initially had no interest in prior to begining the class. You were direct and straight forward when I drifted off the subject (which I did often), but you praised me when I got it right! Your encouraging words are what helped me learn and go on to the next chapter and the next.... Again Thank you!

Student Comments

Mr. Schopen was very welcoming and gave valualbe input as I turned in assignments or asked questions. He never seemed bothered but extremely helpful. He has a great connection with students! Which made this class that much more interesting.

Student Comments

This was one of the more interesting courses I have taken in my four years at the university. The format is great, the subject interesting, and the work requires the student to think and write analytically. Schopen is a terrific teacher: smart, funny, reliable, kind. He's great!

Counseling and Educational Psychology

Teacher : Dr. Christian Conte
Student Comments I would like to thank you for being an outstanding professor. Class is always interesting to attend, and I never walk out feeling as though I haven't learned anything. You always seem to genuinely care about your students. I feel like my experience in your classes will ultimately make me a better couselor. I am looking forward to finishing this program with you as my professor and advisor. Thank you again for all of your hard work and dedication.
Teacher : Dr. Christian Conte
Student Comments This is a master teacher, in the traditions of Aristotele and Socrates. One can imagine him in a toga and sandals instructing in the years of the Greek Renaissance. His style is thoroughly engaging, the knowledge made real and immediate, however based it may be on ancient and at times obscure classical thought. He relates our work in Counseling to not only the helping profession, but also to what should be our never-ending quest for self-knowledge, to a self-examination that is only enhanced when we help our clients. This then is teaching writ large, and truly the 'art of awakening the natural curiosities.'
Teacher :

Dr. Leping Liu

Student Comments

I learned so much from this class that I can use in the classroom. Printouts and instructions given for lab work were easy to read and are invaluable: I have printed them out and been able to use them for reference in the classroom already.
All the lessons and labs were pertinent to the classroom and gave me ideas for future uses of current technologies.
Dr. Liu also made herself available at any time (this was an Independent Learning course online) and when I needed help on a project, she was extremely accomodating and flexible with regards to setting up a time when we could meet face-to-face.

Student Comments

Thank you for this class. It was a great way to get into the technology in a way that will be useful for my profession as an educator. I enjoyed the assighnments and look forward to having you for further courses in the program.
Thank You!

Student Comments

I wanted to thank Dr. Liu for her expertise and compassion for both the subject, and students. The topics were explored by both the text and the labs and I learned skills that are necessary in today's technological world/classrooms. The ideas that Mac and Windows have similar executions was a foreign concept to me and I now know that thanks to this class.

Teacher :

Dr. Jill Packman

Student Comments

Dr. Packman made the online class very interesting and let students learn how to study independly.

Teacher :

Mr. Aaron Richmond

Student Comments

This class is the best class I have had. Mr. Richmond really takes an effort to make the class as interesting as possible and keeps us awake by always having activities that pertain to the lecture. He is always helpful and truly cares that we understand the material. I just wanted to say thank you to him and let him know how appreciated he is!

Teacher :

Sharon Weiss

Student Comments

This professor was awesome. She not only cared about the subject matter but also about the students. She also taught really well so that the information was easy to learn.

Counseling Services

Teacher :

Shernaaz Webster

Student Comments

Outstanding teacher! Dr. Webster not only presents the class well, she connects with the students. You can feel that she truly wants you to succeed and do well in her calss and in life!

Student Comments

Shernaaz has a dynamic aura about herself. When she enters the room, she calms it; she exudes relaxation and learning in the most positive way I have ever been taught. She is full of powerful energy that she allows you to draw from her. She gives you hope that you can change any situation around with just sheer mindfulness and optimism. You can also change your perspective from being a pessimist to an optimist, but not without work, but anything worth having takes work. Shernaaz was a professor who made you want to get up and come to an eight o'clock class and love it. She always found good in any subject-related conversation that we students offered, and added to it and then always thanked us for sharing. She should give a class to other instructors on how to motivate students and get the students involved; more students would learn more and care more about the subjects and attend more classes. Shernaaz is an exceptional person: she exudes an electric, powerful energy and she taught us to hang with who makes us happy. I want to become one of her closest friends and take on her philosophy of life and be free and live in the present. Releasing all the stress and living for the moment, here and now. She is worth her weight in gold!!! I cannot say that enough. I only wish I had found her long before now, as I am graduating.

Criminal Justice

Teacher :

Mr. Terrance Hubert

Student Comments

This instructor brings real life to the classroom about criminal justice and the Nevada Department of Corrections. Thanks to him, I figured out where I want to work and I am now working in my chosen profession. Thanks for being such a good teacher and being real about how things work.

Teacher :

Mr. Roger Young

Student Comments

Not only was this class one of the best that I ever taken (and I am a senior) but Mr. Young was probably one of the best instructors that I have ever had. I believe that instructors should not simply be someone with a Ph.D. or a researcher of some kind . . . . they should be professional with experience in the field of Criminal Justice. Mr. Young is the perfect example of this. His stories made learning the material much simpler. For each point he wanted to get across, there was a story to along with it so I could see how it worked in real life. I will remember this teacher, this class and all of the information I learned for years to come. I will probably even go to him in the future for help, advice, a letter of recommendation, or just to talk. He is an amazing teacher and you shouldn’t let him slip away!

Curriculum, Teaching and Learning

Teacher :

Dr. Jennifer Mahon

Student Comments

Dr. Mahon is an excellent professor. The class was challenging and she made it feel worthwhile in the end. I have never taken so much knowledge and insight from a course as I did with this one. She is quite knowledgeable and very experienced in culture. I couldn't have asked for a better professor for such an overwhelming course. Thank You!

Student Comments

I would like to thank Jennifer for: excellence in teaching, intellectual vigor and communication skills in the interpretation and presentation of subject matter, human quality , concern for and sensitivity to the needs of students, a favourable and lasting influence on students, world-class professionalism, true dedication and gift for teaching, great personal warmth, amazing role model for any teacher and student, taking the teachingl to a higher level.

Economics

Teacher :

Mr. Dennis George

Student Comments

Mr. George, Thank you so much for making economics so interesting. You added a new dimension to teaching. I really appreciate your help. You are a wonderful teacher.

Education Specialties

Teacher :

Ms. Ginny Beck

Student Comments

Ginny, I found this form and I had to fill this out for you. I hope you know that we all love you greatly and are willing to climb mountains for you. Thank you for treating us as professional adults, challenging us, and supporting all of us emotionally when either the day has been horrible or we are struggling in our personal life. I am glad that I have had the opportunity to have you for the past two semesters, and I hope I get to have you again for next semester! Thank you again for letting me know that you always care!

Teacher :

Dr. Cynthia Brock

Student Comments

Cindy, I found this flyer and I couldn't resist: I just wanted to thank you for caring about me as just more than another body in your class. You really motivated me to want to become a better reader and model this reading to my future classes. I have read 2 books in the past 3 months (I am even reading during a semester, and you know that never happens). I just want to thank you for caring so much and for challenging me so much. It was and is wonderful!

Student Comments

I appreciate that Cindy was always prepared for our class. For each class meeting, she planned engaging, worthwhile activities such as book club experiences and "jigsaw" discussions of readings. She always treated us respectfully and asked our opinions if she needed to make a change to our schedule or plans. She has a wonderful sense of humor and made going to class fun! Thank you, Cindy.

Student Comments

Dr. Brock, I have heard so many fine things about you as a person and as a professor. Now that I am actually studying under your tutelage I have already learned so much. I appreciate your insights into cultural and personal identity and the impact we have on our students, and they on us, if we allow it to happen.

Teacher :

Dr. Rober Ives

Student Comments

This professor is an excellent teacher. He teaches assessments well and prepares us to be better teachers.

Teacher :

Dr. Julie Pennington

Student Comments

This professor is an excellent teacher. She goes above and beyond in her lessons to make us better teachers for the future.

Student Comments

Dr. Pennington, studying under your tutelage gave me opportunity to learn so much. I appreciate your insights into cultural and personal identity and the impact we teachers have on our students, and they on us, if we allow it to happen.

Teacher :

Dr. Stephen Rock

Student Comments

Dr. Rock not only made the class interesting, but I felt participation by peers and myself has been enhanced through his teaching style. As students, we discussed on many occasions how Dr. Rock lights fires inside us to want a greater understanding of how research is important and will be used throughout our careers and lifetime.

Educational Leadership

Teacher :

Dr. Richard Daugherty

Student Comments

I am still working on both classes. Thank you for your patience, and support. I had another knee surgery since I started the class. I will keep plugging away.

Student Comments

I want to thank you so much for all of the help that you have given to me over these past three years.
I loved your law classes and have used the information numerous times over the years. As I bring my degree to a end, I must thank you from the bottom of the NRS code.

Teacher :

Dr. George (Gus) Hill

Student Comments

Gus made this class easy to understand since they were intimidating topics for me on how to use excel, powerpoint, and creating a webpage. His instructions were always simple and I figured it out. (Well, most of the time.) His "Talking Points" were absolutely fabulous and made sense when the reading of the chapters were very technical and confusing. He responded quickly to answers and really made this class interesting. I can not believe how much I got out of it and can use in my current career. Dr. Hill is the best!

Teacher :

Dr. Bill Thornton

Student Comments

I appreciate all of the time and help you gave to me this summer, as well as the advice for the PRAXIS test. I was so worried that I was going to miss a step in the process of completing the degree. You made the path much easier.
Your class was the first class that I took on my journey. I have used the lessons, stories and projects many times. Now that I am at the end of the program, I realize that I should have saved the best for last. I am a much better graduate student because of your instruction on writing during that first summer of 2003. Again, many thanks, Kerri

English

Teacher :

Mr. Joseph Bachman

Student Comments

The class was a toughie, but now I can sit back as everyone is panicking over the amount of reading in CH 201. Thanks for preparing us so well. My views of the world are changing on a daily basis because of the literature we studied in your class. I know there is never going to be another one like it. Thanks.

Teacher :

Dr. Susan Baker

Student Comments

Dr. Baker makes English interesting because she knows so much information. She made me appreciate the literature we are reading. I also gained lots of information about the authors and the times they lived in. It has been a joy to take Dr. Baker's classes.

Teacher :

Dr. Jim Bishop

Student Comments

Even though I ended up failing the class, I wanted to thank you for helping me prepare for what was expected of me in college. I'm doing well in my classes this semester and I know it's because of the conversations we had. Thank you!

Teacher :

Mr. Seth Boyd

Student Comments

Seth, I want to thank you for making my first semester of English in College so much fun. I learned how to do so many things. Without your class, I don't think that I would be able to write the way I do now. Working with groups all of the time really helped my experience. I got to know everyone in the class, and still talk to many of them. I also liked the way we read in the class. If we had trouble understanding the story, we came to class the next day, and we discussed it. The way we wrote our essays, and how you looked at them and corrected things you wanted changed, helped me, also. I just wanted to let you know that your class is amazing, and you are a great instructor! Thanks for everything

Teacher :

Dr. Michael Branch

Student Comments

Thank you for making the class worthwhile to go to in the mornings! Lectures tend to be boring and tedious; however, yours are usually interesting and entertaining. Thanks!

Teacher :

Dr. Michael Brown

Student Comments

This professor gave me back my passion for writing and English in general. I had a teacher last year who was unfortunately very malicious in the way the class was taught and very much had turned me off to writing. Professor Brown helped me realize that writing can be very rewarding and constructive to character. I feel like I can relate to Mike on a very personal level... He is more a friend than just another person who gives grades. I'd like to thank him from the bottom of my heart and wish him well. I would definitely like to keep in contact with him. Thanks

Teacher :

Ms. Margaret Cooke

Student Comments

Meg led exceptional discussions by being an outstanding and knowledgeable resource, creating a motivation for students to understand material, and relating coursework to students. Her innovative style of teaching built an environment that greatly encouraged learning and even using information in day-to-day life. Much of my success in comprehending and effectively using Core Humanities material is derived from Meg's ability to make it clear, accessible, and relevant. She constantly challenged seemingly all of the students in her discussion group to build better arguments, use better and more sources, and produce far better analysis of papers and assignments. Great Work. Thanks!

Student Comments

I would like to send my great discussion leader, Meg, a heartfelt thanks for all that she has provided for her students, as well as myself, over the course of the semester. Not only does Meg offer our small discussion group opportunities for debate, discussion, and entertaining and amusing discourse of personal experiences related to the class topics, but she encourages a mutual understanding and respect for each other's thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. What I loved about Meg's class, was that she made it a priority to connect with students on a deeper level. In studying about human history, Meg challenged her students to somehow apply or relate the events of the past, with personal or global experiences of the present. Doing so made the studying of history less ambiguous or unapproachable, because we were reminded that we were a part of the creation of history, not apart from it. Meg also has a way of wanting to go past the college student exterior and into their personal interests, ambitions, and experiences. Through this process, Meg was able to tran sform the strict, traditional, relationship between a student and professor, into one of friendship - one of which I am most grateful to have. Thanks for everything, Meg!! You're absolutely awesome!

Teacher :

Dr. Monica Grecu

Student Comments

Because of Dr. Grecu, I have now started to make my dream more of a reality. In my last school, where I earned my B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education, I had a minor in Imaginitive Writing. I wanted to write children's books. Thanks to Dr. Grecu and her wonderful class, I have now written three stories and have two more in progress. I really enjoyed her class as well as her enthusiasm.

Teacher :

Dr. Jen Hill

Student Comments

She is a hardworking teacher, who gives papers back with helpful feedback. She also is very dedicated. She works with students inside and outside of the classroom. She discusses difficult issues in a free academic atmosphere. Finally, she is a very organized person.

Teacher :

Ms. Lorie Jacobs

Student Comments

Mrs. Jacobs is a wonderful instructor; she helped every student in the class re-think their attitudes on writing and come to enjoy it. She encouraged me to see writing not as an act, but instead as a process that is beautiful and inspiring. With her help I remembered the passion that I had for literature and am considering changing majors to accommodate my enthusiasm. Fire is what teaching is all about. In my opinion, and she not only has it, but also gives it to her students.

Teacher :

Dr. Ann Keniston

Student Comments

Thank you. Your enthusiasm and zeal for your teaching rubbed off on me and thus made the class enjoyable in the long run.

Teacher :

Dr. Gailmarie Pahmeier-Henry

Student Comments

Your professionalism and knowledge have encouraged me to stay at English writing. I've enjoyed your teaching style since my first opportunity to have you as an instructor, but you really get better each time I get to participate in one of your classes. Thanks.

Teacher :

Ms. Sarah Perrault

Student Comments

I wish to thank her for pushing me to do my best. She makes the class enjoyable to attend for all of her students with her warm humor and fair treatment. I have always loved writing, and Mrs.Perrault has helped me to become a better writer through her love of teaching.

Teacher :

Dr. Elizabeth Swingrover

Student Comments

Thank you for creating such an interesting class. I appreciated a less biased overview than I received in the 201 Core Humanities from another professor. The reading list was appropriate and touched on many aspects. Your wit was both entertaining and thought-provoking. Thank you.

Teacher :

Dr. Susan Tchudi

Student Comments

Susan is truly a gem. She is so excited about your writing that you can't help but believe in yourself. Susan is truthful, yet sensitive in her critiques of student writing. She knows how any writer feels about his or her work and treats every piece she reads with the respect she feels it deserves. Each time I send out a letter to a potential agent, I think of Susan and her belief in me. It keeps me going through all of those rejection letters. When that acceptance letter comes, she will be the first person I share the good news with. Susan, thanks for everything.

Teacher :

Ms. Denice Turner

Student Comments

Thank you for everything! You are an awesome teacher, and I learned so much from your class.

Teacher :

Ms. Heather Werner

Student Comments

I really enjoyed this class because she made us get into our writing. She also introduced many new ways of writing to me. She made it fun and got the class involved.

Student Comments

Ms. Werner is one of the best instructors I have had during my time at UNR. She was very open about allowing our class to express our opinions and thoughts. The class material was taught in a very clear and concise manner, which made the class very enjoyable. Her teaching opened my eyes to a different view of women's literature and poetry.

Extended Studies

Teacher :

Richard Eigenheer

Student Comments

Dr. Eigenheer teaches with a very personal touch. He takes his students on a world tour of geography. Dr. Eigenheer personalizes his geograpy course with slides that demostrate all aspects of geography.

Teacher :

Kenneth Smith

Student Comments

I learned many things in this course; moreover, Mr. Smith gave me clearly explaination which many instructors didn't. Although this was an online course, I have never had such an enjoyable class.

Foreign Languages and Literatures

Teacher :

Mr. Tomas Bevia

Student Comments

Thank you for making my money worthwhile.

Student Comments

Tomas, You are an amazing teacher, and I fell in love with Spanish because of you.

Teacher :

Darren Griswold

Student Comments

Mr. Griswold uses his own experiences, humor, multiple synonyms, philosophical approaches, real-world applications, slang, television and movie references, all the five senses, and his strong command of both languages to really clarify and glorify Spanish. I think I speak for more than just myself when I say he really turns people on to the subject. Señor Griswold is wise beyond his years and has changed my life in more ways than I may ever know. He is a true role model, friend, scholar, and teacher.

Teacher :

Dr. Casilde Isabelli

Student Comments

I thought that this class was one of the most beneficial classes I have taken in Spanish in a while. I learned a lot about the Spanish language and about how I can improve my own spanish so I don't sound like such a "gringo". It was always interesting and I felt that Dr. Isabelli put it together well.

Student Comments

She made me want to persue a career in teaching Spanish and introduced me to a whole new area of Spanish that I new very little about. I feel like I really understand the material taught and that I could continue my education with excitement about the language and all that it has to offer. Thank you Casie!!!

Student Comments

You are a great instructor with an immense amount of enthusiasism for the topics you teach. You really put a lot of time into your lectures and classes and it shows in the classroom. You provide the students with the tools they need in order to excell. The students can be sucessful while also being pushed to their full potential. You are an amazing instructor, thank you for all that you have done!

Teacher :

Dr. John Pettey

Student Comments

I would like to thank Dr. Pettey for all the patience and caring he put into our German Composition Class. Also for all the time he takes in correcting the homework and essays. . .the feedback from this class is beyond all expectations. Thank you Dr. Pettey; You are truly a special teacher. Danke, vielen danke!!!

Geography

Teacher :

Mr. Peter Hartsough

Student Comments

Peter consistently made our labs fun and interesting. He was always open to discussion and was able to answer questions clearly and quickly. Much of my success in the class was derived from Peter's clear review of material and his ability to relate material to students. He was an exceptional help with review sessions and questions in his office hours. Great Work! Thanks!

Teacher :

Dr. Scott Mensing

Student Comments

I learned more about Geological Geography than I ever thought I could. Professor Mensing made the class I was previously dreading, interesting, fun, and greatly educational. He utilized several innovative and effective teaching techniques and was always open to discussion. He linked to all students in the class, memorizing everyone's name regardless of a large class size and was able to convey information in different ways to reach seemingly every student's needs. Great Job! Thanks!

Geological Sciences

Teacher :

Dr. Steven Wesnousky

Student Comments

Science is not my strong point- it never has been! I just wanted to thank you very much for making this semester worthwhile to a science challenged person like myself. You related your class to real world topics and issues, and it made it so much more interesting to me. I will never look at the Earth the same again! Thank you for being passionate about what you do, it makes it so much more enjoyable for students. Have a fantastic summer!

Teacher :

Dr. Paul Devereux

Student Comments

I just wanted you to know impressed I was with the respect you showed to every student in the class. I think you were very fair in your grading and your comments on my paper were very thoughtful. I appreciated being treated as an equal and can't thank you enough.

Professor Huntley-Smith has given me outstanding mentoring on environmental history. Her thoughtful, progressive, and scholarly instruction has led me to a great, foundational understanding of the dynamic relationship between humans and nature. I was dreading this class because it was madatory, and I had heard such awful things about it. Professor Nolan made all of the lectures fun and interesting. All of the reading that goes along with CH was another worry; however, he made the lectures go hand-in-hand with the readings and encouraged us to read. The readings, some being lengthy, were very interesting, and I learned a lot! He is funny, and he definitely knows his stuff!! I think if the whole college professor thing doesn't work out, he should be on Jeopardy. Thank you for the most informative class I took all semester!

Teacher :

Dr. Hugh Shapiro

Student Comments

I would like to Thank Dr. Hugh Shapiro for putting forth such a great effort in teaching History of East Asia I and II. If it had not been for his passion for what he teaches, I would have never gotten to expierence East Asian History from such a standpoint. I really appreciate someone who loves what they teach, and it truly shows in the effort he puts forth. There are many classes I could reccomend taking at UNR from many qualified professors, but if someone wants to learn and have a "blast" in the process, they should really take a class from Dr. Shapiro. He truly puts into it what he wants his students to get out of it, and there cannot be enough thanks for the effort. I honestly can say I have found a whole new outlook on History and will remember the classes I have taken from Dr. Shapiro for many years. Thank you Dr. Shapiro for a great learning experience.

Teacher :

Dr. Charles Tshimanga-Kashama

Student Comments

I want to thank Dr. Tshimanga-Kashama for everything! He is a great teacher who has opened my eyes in so many ways about the African Diaspora. He has also helped me with my writing, which is a benefit in itself. Thanks so much!

Teacher :

Dr. Karen Kopera-Frye

Student Comments

I would like to thank Dr. Kopera-Frye for making our classes so interesting. I loved the way she had totally interactive hands on class in both of my courses. I have already learned so much. She made learning FUN and EXCITING!! She combined all the senses in her class for learning. It has been so far a very enjoyable way to learn... THANKS!

Student Comments

Dr. Frye is an AWESOME professor. She makes the class interesting, yet enjoyable. She really achieves full class participation with excitement. I always looked forward to attending class... THANKS! I really believe Professor Frye went above and beyond in the classroom to insure we have a learning environment. She needs to be recommended for the professor of the year!

Teacher :

Nere Amenabar

Student Comments

Dear Nere,
Thank you for your wonderful web page. I am an older student who is not very computer literate. Thanks for the ease of communicating through your page. You also immediately responded, earlier in the year, when the links were down. I thank you very much.

Most sincerely, Roxanna Reynolds

Teacher :

Dr. Susan Doctor

Student Comments

I wish to convey my appreciation for the well constucted instruction over the semester. Susan Doctor taught complex material, created a simple "aha moment" learning style, and conveyed her knowledge to the students...not all instructors have this gift.

Teacher :

Anne Forsyth Aas

Student Comments

Thank you for a very thorough class. This was my first WebCt class. There was a great amount of work, but it all was manageable. The readings and the assignments all contributed to the purpose of the course. Thank you. I learned a great deal.

Teacher :

Dr. Jerry Hoover

Student Comments

I learned a lot from taking CRJ 380. I thought I was just taking it to fulfill my major and my diversity credit, but I got so much more out of it. I was going to drop it due to the fact that I was taking too many credits but each time I did an assignment, it made me think of the bigger picture and how easy and necessary it was to focus on the class; especially the lessons learned. I just wanted to say thank you because of the way the class was set up and the feedback I recieved.

Teacher :

David Lott

Student Comments

He taught me a lot. His classes were always interesting and surprising. My view toward the world completely changed since I took this class. I became very interested in sociology and declared it as a minor (I might make it major...)thanks to Dr. Lott.

Teacher :

Marlene O'Connell

Student Comments

Professor O'Connell, Your class was really interesting and very informative. Thanks for being so prompt with grades and with answers to our questions.

Teacher :

Kevin Quint

Student Comments

Thanks to Kevin Quint, who made the class most enjoyable and informative. His kindness and personal responses to questions and assignments enabled me to share openly and honestly. I have been given a great desire to continue in this field. Thanks to a great professor. I will never forget this class.

Interior Design Program

Teacher :

Cynthia Cavallo

Student Comments

She is very supportive, and yet she always gives constructive criticism. She is very patient and very serious about her teaching. Whenever I did something wrong in the class, she pointed it out. She makes me understand more about the subject and my future career. Indeed, she's a very good teacher and mentor.

Managerial Sciences

Teacher : Dr. Bret Simmons
Student Comments I must say that Bret's class is the first class that I have had in a long time that I can be passionate about. He applies real world examples and allows us to do the same. He encourages creative and original thinking. He allows us to step outside of the box to discuss and analyze a variety of leadership issues. The topic is not covered well enough in the business undergrad program. It is nice to see an instructor that actually cares about the people he is helping to mold into the leaders of tomorrow. Most instructors don't even know your name here. You are another assignment and attendance mark in their book. Bret does it differently. Whatever it is, I hope that other instructors take his "lead" in making learning as desirable as he does. Thanks Bret!

Microbiology and Immunology

Teacher :

Dr. Kenneth Hunter

Student Comments

This was the best class I have ever taken and a big component of that was Dr. Hunter's teaching. The information was presented with an enthusiasm that was clearly a product of Dr. Hunter's appreciation for the subject. I know he is one of the university's best researchers, and to combine that with such excellence in teaching warrants both a thank you from me and what I hope some day might be an Outstanding Teacher award from the university.

Mathematics and Statistics

Teacher :

Mr. Torrey Carroll

Student Comments

For being open to all questions and really teaching a subject, not just talking about it.

Teacher :

Dr. Anna Davis

Student Comments

This class taught me a whole new way to enjoy mathematics, and it made me decide to study math as a second degree program. From no other class have I received such a positive influence. Thanks!

Teacher :

Ms. Alicia Hansen

Student Comments

I really enjoyed the class because she was so structured with her course work. Everything was outlined, which made it easier to learn in the long run. She brought enthusiasm to the class, also.

Teacher :

Ms. Margo Mulvihill

Student Comments

I want to thank her for the thorough and useful training she gave me in Math128. She also made herself available to us in terms of extra study sessions. Thank you.

Teacher :

Mr. Scott Morrison

Student Comments

He is always willing to help any student. Scott teaches in a way that doesn't confuse students, yet helps them learn the material so they won't forget it. Best math teacher I've had !!!

Mechanical Engineering

Teacher :

Dr. Bradford Snyder

Student Comments

I think Dr. Snyder is a great Professor. His lectures are a joy to attend. He keeps it interesting . . . and as fun as possible (considering the material). Although his tests seem like they're spawned from the thirteenth level of hell, everyone still thinks he's the greatest ME Professor around. Keep up the good work——it's duck soup!

Student Comments

Although every instructor I had while at UNR left me with something valuable, Dr. Snyder taught me how to think. It has served me well both personally and professionally these past years.

Music and Dance

Teacher :

Mr. Eduardo Armendizo

Student Comments

Eduardo's Intermediate Jazz Dance class contains dynamic, fast-paced, hyper-cool choreography and Jazz dance technique instruction that evolved from Eduardo's vast dance experience. This awesome instructor (remember the word "awesome" is much overused: George W. Bush speaking a coherent sentence would be awesome, winning a multi-million dollar lottery would be awesome, and affordable student parking fees would be equally awesome), but Eduardo is truly awesome because his mind is full of creativity, innovation in choreography, boldness, and a strong, sincere desire to impart his love of dance to the students who've been blessed with the good fortune to attend his class. I suggest you not be an untaught beginner but at least have a modicum of competency with some previous dance experience. If you take his Intermediate Jazz Dance or his Advanced Jazz dance, you'll be rewarded with a pre-dance warm up exercises that will whip you into shape (you'll lose inches, get strong musculature, a flat stomach, flexibility and the confidence that comes from being fit, looking good and the quiet self awareness that you've learned an amazingly cool thing--the ability to move in dance with sharp, flowing, elegant, wild, aesthetically dynamic, sensual movements that are a sheer joy to execute and absolutely spectacular to watch). Eduardo's class has an ambiance of energy and comfort, an atmosphere of positive expectation from Eduardo that you will do well if you're focused and full of energy), and the subtle, ever-present confidence that we, his students, enjoy everyday because we know he cares, is concerned, and gives us his total devotion. We are blessed with his love, his experience, his humor and wit, skill and energy.

Teacher :

Dr. Vincent Brosseau

Student Comments

If I would have known UNR had dance technique instructors Like Vincent Brosseau for Modern Dance, I would've enrolled decades earlier. The first minute of the first day of class is how long it took to realize I had an exceptional instructor: Vincent was (and is) welcoming, extremely knowledgeable, funny (wielding humor like a fencer's foil),always helpful, constantly attentive, always full of energy and enthusiasm. His class is a fast-paced (but not too fast!), lively, energetic, dynamic, fun-filled lesson in dance technique of the free-flowing yet structured, rollicking celebration of life in modern dance. You get a great workout, ensuring you're warmed up to begin dance. It is impossible not to want to move, to shake your whole body and soul 'cause you're imbued with energy needing a release to move to the rhythm of the live drummer (Mark , a professional drummer tailors his drumming to individual dance sequences. Mark's music is the coolest thing you will ever hear). (I wonder if all the modern dance students actually realize what a treat it is to have a professional musician bang the drums?) The only problem with this class is, as of the Spring '05 semester, it is only offered one day a week. (Mr. Brosseau also teaches int/adv. Mod. on Thursdays. Perhaps the Dance Dept will eventually realize the absolute necessity and importance of offering this class more than one day a week--one can hope that will happen, and if so, everyone will benefit. I recommend this class to anyone willing to give it your all; to come to class with enthusiasm and energy. In other words, to give what you will receive, tenfold, from Vincent Brosseau, an absolutely incredible, unsurpassed dance professor.

Teacher :

Mr. Ed Corey

Student Comments

Dear Ed: The only way to learn theory is to work lots of problems and have them evaluated. A grade is not enough; only written evaluations stating the specifics of what was done well, what was an appropriate judgment call, and what was done incorrectly make learning possible. I want to thank you for the enormous amount of time you put into assigning homework and evaluating it in such a way that students learn from their mistakes. I know very well that there are ways of avoiding such work, but you've chosen not to avoid it. Thanks.

Teacher :

Barbara Land

Student Comments

Dr. Land,
I want to thank-you for the amazing instruction over the summer. I want to thank-you because I adored your class.I aspire to educate and excell as you. Your class has been the best because of your enthusiasm, your dedication and your teaching excellence.

Teacher :

William Walters

Student Comments

Mr. Walters,
Music Theory is by far the hardest course that I have taken. The fact that you are so open to helping students after class is awesome. I have never had a professor who is so open to their students. So I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for being so helpful.

Teacher :

Mr. John Michael Wright

Student Comments

In Env 100 I learned a lot, and I enjoyed going to class all the time. Prof Wright was one of the best [teachers] I have ever had, and I learned a lot. I also liked his way of teaching the class and the way his tests were. I would recommend this prof to anyone.

Waleed, I have never liked Core Humanities as much as when I had you as my discussion leader. Thank you so much for making this semester a complete pleasure. I know everybody in our class agrees with me.

Psychiatry & Behavioral Science

Teacher :

Alison Pratte

Student Comments

Miss Alison is a very compassionate person that helped everyone. It was as if everyone was the most important person in the world. She has a strong knowledge of yoga and made it clear to teach us. She presented at each different level, she added appropriate music and provided us with information to add to our libraries of literature. I have taken yoga before but NEVER from someone as good as her.

Psychology

Teacher :

Ms. Kara Bunting

Student Comments

Kara did a wonderful job at making the research lab a warm place to be. She was always willing to listen and did her best to help in any way she could. She made the experience of independent research study rewarding as well as enjoyable. Thanks Kara!

Teacher :

Dr. Mark Wessinger

Student Comments

Aside from the class, he has been a huge help to me in figuring out my minor and setting up a thesis project, considering beforehand I had never had a class with him and didn't know him at all. He's interesting and fun and he definitely makes a class like 301 easier to deal with, he makes it easy-going and full of laughs. He's just awesome. I can't wait to work with him in his lab. THANKS SO MUCH!!

School of Journalism

Teacher :

Ms. Deidre Pike

Student Comments

She made everything fun and exciting and didn't force us to conform to her views. Her methods of teaching actually made me show up for class because I didn't want to miss something fun. And I actually retained information from her class!

Teacher :

Mr. Ryan Randazzo

Student Comments

I have had many great teachers before, some being really cool by letting you slack off and some just being really friendly people. But I just wanted to say that Ryan Randazzo is certainly the best teacher I have ever had throughout all fifteen years of my education. I am not even kidding when I say that I almost changed my major to Journalism in Public Relations because of his enthusiasm for his subject. I had thought that perhaps his class was so amazing because the subject is just interesting, but from what I have heard from other journalism 101 students with other professors, it truly is Mr. Randazzo's influence that makes the class so fascinating. Although I am no longer planning to be a part of the school of journalism, I have learned so much from just that 100 level class. Thank You.
